Earth Knowledge is part of our Return Initiative and centers on returning to connection—with the land, community, and one another through mentorship. As an act of reparation, Sassafras prioritizes creating spaces for First Nations and BIPOC people to gather, learn, and build community. Together, we explore traditional knowledge and practices while deepening our understanding of decolonization.

Fall 2026 Weekend - OPEN to First Nations and BIPOC People

Earth Knowledge includes three seasonal gatherings in fall, winter, and spring. Each gathering includes a prep Zoom call and an outdoor, in-person weekend to deepen our connection with the land and community. Fall and spring weekends include camping; winter weekends have indoor accommodations.

Earth Knowledge is an immersive, screen-free experience for adults to engage in traditional skills and contemplative Indigenous practices. We cook our meals over an open fire, build community, and emphasize the importance of decolonizing our minds and actions. We focus on the following areas:

Payment in full $600 per season
Financial Assistance upon request
100% Repair Fund Coverage

Dates Prep Zoom Call Fall 2026:

Monday October 5, 2026 from 6 - 7pm est

Dates In-Person Fall Weekend 2026:

From Saturday Oct 10, 4pm until Mon Oct 12, 11am.
Participants are expected to attend the full weekend and prep Zoom call.
Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel.
Travel stipends of up to $200 are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
Taxi transportation will be provided to and from the Steamship Terminal on Friday, following the 2:30pm ferry from Woods Hole, and on Sunday for the 1:15pm ferry.
